28 Weeks - The Big Milestone

They say 28 weeks is the turning point.  If we had the babies today, the chance of survival goes way way up.  So yay babies for hanging in there and staying put!

A couple things have happened since I wrote last.  I had an unexpected ultrasound last week to check on the fluid in the sacs of each baby.  We had concern that perhaps somebody was leaking some fluid.  The good news - all girls have the right amount of fluid and nobody is leaking!  The bad news - Ally's head is indenting my bladder.  So I bet you all can guess what happens when she moves her head, turns over, or puts her hands by her face.  Being pregnant sure is a joy!  LOL.

In that ultrasound, Ally showed a gain of 7 oz in 8 days.  Her weight was 2 lbs 10 oz.  She has long legs and a big belly :)  Emmy and Izzy showed weight gains of 4 oz each, weighing in at 2 lbs 7 oz.  The really, really good news...Emmy's kidneys appear to be correcting.  I see the the specialist on Tuesday Nov 2 who will get to take a good look at her kidneys and let's all hope she is self-correcting the fluid in her kidneys!  Go Emmy!

I had the first of two showers on Saturday.  It was a true reminder of how generous people are and how much everyone is cheering us on from the sidelines.  To all my friends who showered these girls last weekend - thank you!  And to the hostesses, thank you for taking the time and putting together such a wonderful gathering!  I appreciate each of you!

I took my one hour glucose test again yesterday.  I am still waiting on results.  It will truly be a miracle if I pass it!  If I come close to failing, my doctor did say that she would not make me do the three hour, she would send me on to see the diabetes center to start the diet and testing sugars asap.

While at the appointment, Dr. Brown and I talked about a couple important things.  First, my super cervix!  Apparently, I am not thinning at all, which is amazing for someone at 28 weeks, with triplets, already carrying 7 lbs 8 oz of baby!  So the new joke is that having a super cervix is my special power, what's yours?  Second, because all is going well, we discussed delivery time frame.  She thinks I can make 36 weeks.  The problem.  36 weeks is a Sunday and 36 weeks and 1 day is the Monday before Christmas.  If I go that long, there would be a chance I would not be home Christmas morning.  I have to think about Leah and Seth.  Its not fair to them for it to be this way.  So we discussed 35 weeks and 5 days, the Friday before Christmas.  Sounds great, but then you worry about the girls lung development.  So we are really caught in the middle here.  I am choosing to not worry too much about this yet.  I need to take it one day at a time.  And these little girls were a surprise to begin with, so maybe their entrance into the world will be a surprise as well!

And last, we discussed that I should no longer take 2 hours and go to Target or Costco or anywhere.  She does not want me on my feet that long.  So, my shopping days are done until the babies are here.  It is not bed rest...it is limited activity.  I should have my feet up more and let others take care of things.  So that's the plan.  So all you helpers out there, be prepared!  I start seeing my doctor every week now.  At most we have 8 weeks.  Reality is sure setting in!
