Its been a busy two weeks since the last blog. I will get straight to the point...we met with the specialist on Monday. They did an ultrasound and then walked us through everything that they could see.
Ally (baby a) is head down and underneath Emmy (baby B). Her head is also on top of my bladder (fun times for me!). She looks healthy as can be. She is weighing in at 1 lbs 3 oz. Still measuring on time! She has been moving more than she was a week ago, but at least I know she is doing good.
Emmy (baby b) overall looks good. She is breach and will likely not turn at this point. She still has the kidney reflux and it has not corrected itself yet. The dr.did share with us that by 32 weeks in the belly, 90% of babies with kidney reflux have self-corrected. Keep in mind, these girls may not make it to 32 weeks, so this is just a wait and see issue. And even after birth, if it is still present, it may just be wait and see, or be able to be treated with medication. I am really not concerned about this at this point. She weighs in at 1 lbs 4 oz. Also measuring in right on time.
Izzy (baby c) flipped (I felt her flip) and is head down now. There had been some discussion on her bowels, but the specialist thinks that she is fine and she is healthy. Nothing to worry about with her and did give us some better photos. She is 1 lbs 4 oz as well. Also measuring right on time.
We discussed several important topics with Dr. Stevenson. She wanted to let us know how lucky, and rare, it is that these babies each have their own sacs and placentas. This is important for one main reason. Let's say something happens to one of the babies and it does not make while in the belly. It should have zero impact on the other 2 babies. So as sad as it would be, the loss of one, would not mean loss of another. Also, because the girls are completely separate, we do not have the fear of one of the girls taking too much of the blood or nutrients from each other. All of this is fantastic for the girls growth.
They do wish that they had been able to do a scan of the girls earlier, to get better pictures of their structures. From everything that they can see, all have good structures. It is very hard to figure out whose hands we see or whose feet are kicking, but we can assume it is all there. There are no markers or indications that any of the babies are Downs babies. Apparently, since I ovulated three eggs, the chances of Downs increased. But, as far as they can tell, all three are healthy.
Dr. Stevenson explained that she will see me every three weeks for growth scans from here on out. Her job is to watch the babies and keep track of their development until their birth. My OB, Dr. Brown, is in charge of making sure I am good. I am on no restrictions at this point and can continue normal activity, as long as I don't try to play super mom and overdue things. My orders are to listen to my body and slow down when I need too. My next OB appointment is Oct 7. My next ultrasound is Oct. 12.
That is all the medical information, but I wanted to add some of my own thoughts about all this going on with the girls, Leah and Seth and just our state of mind. I am finding that I tire real easy. More than last week at this time. I also feel like Ally's head is pressing down all the time. When I stand for more than a few minutes, they just get so heavy. If I am up for an hour, it takes two hours of sitting to make up for it. When they all three are moving, my heart races and I have to sit down. II do have to wonder how my body will handle this in the coming weeks. I try not think too much about this, but its hard not to worry about the state of my body through all of these changes.
Seth continues to be very sweet about the babies. Each night at dinner he tells us that he is grateful for the babies. He kisses them good night (three kisses across the belly) and loves that he will be a big brother. Leah still has her moments. She prefers to not talk to much about the babies. And I often have to remind her that people are just curious about her mommy's belly and triplets. We are doing our best to make sure she gets to do the things she enjoys and have some time with each of us without anybody else. On the upside, her teacher told Joel this morning (at Donuts for Dads) that Leah is really excited about the triplets. So maybe she talks about it with others, just not with us.
Joel and I also have our moments. It is overwhelming to think about the next 6 months. The babies are viable at 24 weeks (this weekend) and we hope to keep them in my belly until 32 to 34 weeks. That is only 8 weeks! We don't have the cribs yet, or all the car seats and there is so much to do and I can't do it all anymore. So I have my days when I have to take a deep breath and hope that it will all turn out. The outpouring of all of you with kind words, support, and offers of help does calm me down in those moments. So thank you all!

Just so you know....we cleaned out our attic of ALL our extra girl clothes and accessories...garbage bags galore sitting waiting to come to your house! I think Joel will be here next week to aerate our yard anyway? Maybe he can pick up the stash so you can organize and wash what you want while you still have some energy! Lucky for you we had Sweet Baby Same instead of our own little Emerson! :)
